ALL AMERICAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE™
INVITES FANS TO
INAUGURAL NATIONAL TRY-OUTS AT
ORLANDO'S CITRUS BOWL
Admission is free to
July 3 event featuring
over 20 former college
players, including
Florida standouts Shane
Matthews, Travis McGriff
and Vernell Brown
ORLANDO, FL (June 25,
2007) - The center of
the
football
universe is shifting to
Orlando this week. More
than 400 players from
the some of the greatest
college and professional
football programs in
America are gathering to
try out for a new
professional football
league.
And if you are in
Orlando, you can see it
for free. And also win
lots of cool prizes too.
Attending this two-day
event - starting on July
2 - are standouts from
the University of
Florida, Notre Dame,
Florida State,
University of Miami,
University
of Alabama,
the University of Texas,
University of Oklahoma,
and just about every
other major college in
the country.
Also attending the event
will be prospective AAFL
head coaches Jackie
Sherrill, Bill Bates,
Jim Donnan, Bob Pruett.
RC Slocum, formerly the
coach of Texas A & M,
has indicated that he is
quite interested in
coaching the League's
Texas team.
The highlight of the
session will be a 7-on-7
passing scrimmage
between teams
representing Florida and
Tennessee. Admission to
the Citrus Bowl is free
for the July 3rd session
beginning at 5:00 p.m.
For those that cannot
make it, the scrimmage
will be broadcast live
by selected stations of
the Gator Radio Network.
Twenty-two former
Florida Gators,
including Shane
Matthews, Travis McGriff
and Vernell Brown are
scheduled to start for
the League's Florida
team.
The League's eight
charter teams will be
located in avid
college
football
markets such as Florida,
Tennessee, Georgia,
Alabama, Texas,
Michigan, Arkansas,
Purdue and N C State.
Also, according to Dave
Hart, Athletic Director
of Florida State, the
FSU is strongly
considering hosting an
AAFL team in 2008.
Fans attending will have
a chance to win
outstanding prizes
including the Grand
Prize, a Dodge Ram 1500
Truck; five first
prizes,
Electrolux ICON
Outdoor Kitchens; five
second prizes, LG
Electronics 50-inch
High-Definition
televisions plus other
prizes, including signed
Florida
football
memorabilia
and All American
Football League
merchandise.
'This is a great
opportunity for both the
players trying out for
roster positions and
fans with a deep passion
for the game,- said
McGriff, a former
Florida wide receiver,
1st Team All SEC
selection and
Biletnikoff Award
finalist who played for
the Denver Broncos and
was the Arena Football
League's 2003 Rookie of
the Year. 'The players
and everyone involved in
the League know the
passion for college
football is unrivaled in
all of sports. It's a
dream come true for
former Florida players
to have the opportunity
to play again at the
Swamp,- said McGriff.
Prior to the scrimmage,
there will be an
interactive family fun
area for fans to test
their passing skills, a
trivia contest to test
their college football
knowledge plus photo
opportunities and
autograph sessions.
Gates open at 5 PM. The
pre game festivities
will begin at 6 PM with
non-contact passing
scrimmage set to
kick-off at 7:30 PM
followed by the prize
drawings at 9 PM and the
fireworks display at
9:15 PM.
Of interest to Florida
fans, former Florida
quarterback and head
football coach Doug
Dickey, who also served
as the athletic director
of his alma mater and
Tennessee, serves on the
League's Board of
Directors along with
other leading
intercollegiate
athletics
administrators,
including former NCAA
President Cedric W.
Dempsey and former ACC
Commissioner, Gene
Corrigan.
