At a press conference in Gainesville, FL on September 5, 2007, the AAFL's Florida team announced that Shane Matthews will become the team's first coach. Also the team announced that it signed players including Travis McGriff, Ran Carthon, Judd Davis, Chris Doering, Tony George, Willie Jackson, Steve Rissler, Fred Weary and Eli Williams.
