RE: AAFL Team Florida Newsletter: November 13, 2007
This does not seem fair. Team Florida is already stocked with some great players getting ready to play some serious football in Spring 2008.
Fred Weary. Chris Doering. Steve Rissler. Willie Jackson. And lots of others.
Now Chris Leak too.
That's piling on.
Forget the numbers: Gator fans know Leak is a winner. Everywhere he has been. And now that he is going to be vying for a spot as quarterback for Team Florida, well that seems unsportsmanlike.
We'll have to watch the blogs and MySpace pages to see what Alabama defensive stars Reggie Myles and Marcus Spenser have to say about that.
Already our MySpace pages are buzzing. Fans are happy they'll get a chance to see Leak in the Swamp again.
Just this morning some fans came up to Coach Shane Matthews and told him they were buying season tickets because of Leak.
We haven't even started selling them yet and already we have sold a bunch.
And last night, while Coach Matthews and I were doing a speaking engagement in front of the North Florida Gator Club in Lake City you can be sure there were lots of questions about Leak.
Chris loves to play football. That is for sure. Watch for Chris at some of our upcoming player appearances..
We get lots of letters in response to our newsletter. Here are a few:
This one from Alan:
"I missed out the autograph session in Jacksonville. Are the autographs sessions posted o the web site?"
We'll keep you posted in this and future newsletters.
Here's another:
"I am primarily interested when the tickets for the game here will be. As for the game in Gianesville, I am sure I will find some somewhere. When do you forsee the tickets for Alltel stadium game going on sale? Do alumni of Florida and students get first priority there too?"
Yes. Students and alumni get priority.
And another:
"Hey Travis my name is Billy. I was at the autograph signing. My little brother was trying to arm wrestle Zack. That was cool of you guys to do that for us. I appreciate the autographs..
"I'm looking forward to the season. I know you guys probably dont but if you need any help with anything E mail me back. Advertising at my dads business, stuff during games or anything id be glad to lend a hand. Good luck with the season i hope its a big success. GO GATORS..."
Thanks Billy.
And tell your little brother thanks taking it easy on Zack.
Here's how you can help -- at least until you are old enough to put on the pads -- Just spread the word.
When your people talking about us on sports talk radio -- call in.
When you read a blog about Team Florida -- post a response.
When you see a story in the paper -- write a letter to the reporter.
That's what a lot of people are doing right now and the word is spreading: We're going back to the Swamp!
One more thing - you should definitely take a look at the Team Florida blog here. I've been posting, and we've also had posts from Mackenzie Pierre, Tremaine McCollum, Zephrin Augustine, Nick Brooks, and Vernell Brown. Come see what the Team Florida players are saying. Oh, and we'll get Coach Shane Matthews to start posting soon too!
More later.

P.S. Trivia question: What former running back for the Crimson Tide who won two national championships with the greatest Alabama coach ever is about to sign up as coach of Team Alabama?
Hint: He's a member of the Gator Bowl Hall of Fame and he graduated 80 percent of his athletes.
